“Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

They immediately left their nets and followed Him. (Matt 4:19-20)

The disciples heard the Lord Jesus’ command and immediately obeyed. When we hear God’s commands we too must immediately obey. But what happens to so many professing Christians is that they do not obey immediately when they hear God command them to do something. And because they don’t obey the Lord immediately this opens the door for Satan to tempt them and lie to them causing many to doubt His word. The Christian who does not immediately obey when they’ve heard the Lord impressing His word deep in their spirit will start to use human reasoning and will cause them doubts.

God’s word tells us to walk by faith and not by sight . Human reasoning will cause you to walk by sight and not by faith. You cannot understand or obey God’s word by human reason. His word/commands will not make sense to those who use their own reasoning to try to make sense of God’s word. If you do that, you are then trusting in your ways and understanding and are still in bondage to the basic principles of this world (Col.2:8). Such Christians have not learned to be lead by the Spirit but are still carnal Christians.

This is how we become easily deceived when we do not immediately obey. Can you hear the lies of the evil one saying “Did God really mean that, surely He can’t mean this. How will you provide for your family, how can you get by with one car. What if this causes your family to hate you? Surely God doesn’t mean that. What if…..ect, ect.”

Such lies (human reasoning) go on with the “what if’s” and never ends. Such persons will not please God because they continue to be lead by sight and not faith. They are led by the flesh and not the Spirit. The Christian must overcome this or else their life will always be filled with defeat. They will eventually fall into delusion thinking they are following God while they continue to disobey Him. They will be a people who are always hearing but they never truly believe from the heart.
